The Izmir Mediterranean Biennial exhibition opened on January 23 with the theme "Looking at the Same Water" and featured works by 31 young artists from 16 countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Hosted at the Atlas Pavilion Art Gallery in Kültürpark, the exhibition attracted approximately 25,000 visitors and ran until March 11. As part of the public program, the Biennial organized three panels, two discussions, and a collaborative performance by Ali M. Demirel and Kaan Bulak.

Organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in collaboration with K2 Contemporary Art Center, the Biennial sought to highlight the region’s cultural landscape and promote artistic dialogue across Mediterranean geographies. Its first phase, the “Artist-in-Residence” program, brought together 27 artists and one collective from 16 countries, working across various disciplines including painting, digital arts, ceramics, and kinetic sculpture. Throughout the residency, public artist talks provided insight into the participants' working processes, while the exhibition period expanded the dialogue through public panels and discussions.

My contribution included:

  • Coordinated the Artist-in-Residence program, facilitating communication between artists and the organizing committee.

  • Provided ongoing support to artists, coordinating travel arrangements and co-facilitating production needs to ensure smooth project execution.

  • Assisted in the installation of the exhibition and the preparation of public events; co-coordinated the opening reception, organization of events, and guest logistics.

  • Translated and adapted texts between English and Turkish; edited and prepared catalogue texts for publication.

  • Managed the Biennial’s social media channels and content strategy.

The videos were shot and edited by Ilyas Hayta for the IMB.
